Safety & Accreditation
Safety & Accreditation
Safety at Camp Olympia has been and continues to be our #1 priority.
We are proudly licensed for this summer through the State of Texas, demonstrating all of the new emergency procedure requirements.
Many of the State’s new safety requirements stem from American Camping Association standards, which Camp Olympia has already had in place for years. The American Camping Association (ACA) sets the best standards in the camping industry and that is why Camp Olympia chooses to be accredited by the ACA and has been since our beginning.
We proudly display the ACA accreditation logo as a stamp of approval. ACA Accreditation is the best guarantee of professionalism in camping, and it lets you know we have taken the time to insure our program and our site meets the strictest codes of safety and excellence.
We have invested in our infrastructure throughout the years because we are committed to providing the best experience possible for our campers and staff. Below are just a few examples of this commitment:
-
-
- Perry Weather System – Outdoor warning system for severe weather conditions, along with site-specific weather notifications of current conditions, forecasts and alerts.
- 24/7 Security – Locked front gate with security guard on duty 24/7. Guard monitors who is allowed access on to camp property as well as monitors weather through the middle of the night.
- Radio System throughout Camp and in Cabins – Our Radio Room is our communication hub with speakers throughout camp and radios in each cabin.
- Walkie-Talkies in Cabin Clusters and with Leadership Staff – Our directors and assistant directors carry hand-held walkie-talkies for direct communication around camp. Walkie-talkies are also available in each cabin cluster and at main activity areas.
- Fiber Internet – We have high-speed fiber optic internet at our facility along with backup internet service.
- Generators on Site – Should power go out at camp, several of our cabins have built-in generators, as does our office and nurses’ station. We also have several large external generators to keep our chow hall, water plant and lift station powered, and smaller generators for our radio and internet system.
- 24/7 Nurses – Camp is staffed with a registered nurse for Boys’ Camp and Registered Nurse for Girls’ Camp during each camp session. These nurses are on site 24/7 and many have been with Olympia for over 10 years. Each term also has a nurse practitioner available to help with evaluating illnesses and injuries, as well as prescribing medication.
- Mental Health Professional – Olympia has a mental health professional on staff to assist with any needs our campers and staff may have while at camp. (Parents will be notified if a camper requests to speak with our mental health counselor.)
- Week-long Counselor Training School – Our staff goes through a one-week counselor training school prior to campers arriving so they can learn the Olympia way! Safety is our top priority!
-
You’ll find improvement ongoing throughout our program, facilities, procedures, etc. as it is the Olympia way to make each year better than the prior. We have an “open door” with staff and customers and eager await your praise or concerns.
