Life As a Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS

Counselors must be at least 18 years of age, and it is preferred that they have completed at least one semester of college.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise children 24/7 in an outdoor environment. Counselors must have the stamina to lead activities over an extended period of time.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and foster a positive and safe environment.
  • Maintain written record of cabin campers.
  • Teach or assist up to 10 40-minute activity periods.
  • Work effectively in the East Texas summer environment.
  • Stay calm in an emergency and follow correct procedures.
  • Exemplify the Olympia values and set a positive example for the campers.
  • Travel 5-8 miles daily over natural terrain while supervising campers.
  • Carry out special assignments during the heat of the day.
  • Maintain the Olympia values year-round in all areas of life (school, social media, at home).

A TYPICAL DAY

7:45 – Wake up
8:00 – Breakfast
9:15 – COLOCO (counselor challenges, lip sync battles, etc.)
9:30 – Coach your team in Spartan/Athenian competition
10:30 – Activity 1 (MWF only) or Breakout (free time for campers on Tuesday/Thursday)
11:10 – Activity 2 (MWF only) or continue Breakout
12:00 – Radio Show
12:30 – Lunch
2:45 – Snack Attack
3:00 – Activity 3
3:45 – Activity 4
4:30 – Activity 5
5:15 – Activity 6
6:15 – Dinner
7:30 – Nightly Program
9:30 – Back to cabins to shower
10:30 – Lights out
