Camp Olympia is once again proud to host the participants and team captains of The 2009 Spirit International Golf Tournament, November 3-7th. Camp Olympia transforms into an international village for The Spirit tournament. Golfers will reside, relax and enjoy fun nightly programs at Camp Olympia while competing in this international amateur championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club. Whispering Pines Golf Club, adjacent to Camp Olympia, is located in Trinity, Texas, just 90 miles north of Houston.
The Spirit International Golf Tournament hosts two top male and top female amateur golfers from 20 countries spanning six continents. This biennial event was established in 2001 and has featured some of today's professional golfers, Lorena Ochoa, Brandt Snedeker, Paula Creamer, Edoardo Molinari and Michael Sim.
At this year's Spirit, LPGA star, Paula Creamer will be the USA Team Captain. The four golfers representing the USA are the stars of tomorrow with impressive golf achievements. Alexis Thompson, from Coral Springs, Florida, is ranked as the #1 U.S. Junior Girls play and the 2008 U.S. Girls’ Junior Champion. At 14 years old, she has played in the past three U.S. Women’s Open. Jennifer Johnson, from La Quinta, California, is the 2009 U.S. Women’s Amateur Runner-Up at age 17. Jordan Spieth is 15 year old champion golfer from Dallas, Texas. Jordan is the current #1 ranked U.S. Junior Boys’ Player. Ben Martin, age 21, is currently a Senior at Clemson University. Ben is the 2009 U.S. Amateur Runner-Up and played in the 2009 U.S. Open.
