Established in 1968, Camp Olympia is a summer camp for boys and girls, ages 7-16. Camp Olympia is just 90 miles northeast of Houston.
Camp Olympia, a premier Texas summer camp for boys and girls ages 7 to 16 located on Lake Livingston in Trinity, Texas, today announced that their new Philanthropy Club donated $4,000.00 this holiday season to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. The donation, given by kids to help kids, will be used to pay for up to 800 prescriptions and/or 125 home medical equipment devices (including nebulizers to administer mist inhaled medication into the lungs) for under-resourced families that turn to the Texas Children’s Pediatric Associates’ (TCPA) Ripley House for health care services.
Several Houston-area Camp Olympia campers (Ally Myers, Hunter Runnells, Sam Worsham and Benjamin Allison) were on hand to proudly deliver a check that represented years of earning over 24,000 merits from 570 campers (merits are earned by doing good deeds and can be saved and spent in the Camp Olympia Country Store) to Texas Children’s Hospital representatives, Seema Patel, Texas Children’s Hospital Development Office and Dr. Jackie Ramchatesingh, a TCPA Project Medical Home practice physician.
“We are so proud of our campers,” said Chris Gilbert, co-founder of Camp Olympia. “This donation was truly given from their hearts and minds, a quality that we consistently work to instill in our kids. To see the big smiles on their faces, as they handed the check to TCPA – Ripley House representatives, brought tears to our eyes. This is the first year for the Camp Olympia Philanthropy Club and the kids were so supportive of the program. We are looking forward to the growth of the club in the coming years,” he continued.
About the Texas Children’s Pediatric Associates Project Medical Home - Ripley House
As part of its goal to build a community of healthy children, Texas Children’s Pediatric Associates (TCPA) Project Medical Home (PMH) provides trusted, high-quality pediatric medical services for children who otherwise would seek care from emergency rooms or possibly go without care or treatment due to low family incomes and/or lack of health insurance. Regardless of the family’s financial situation, PMH provides health care to children from birth to age 18 and offers the opportunity to develop a trusting, long-term relationship with a board certified pediatrician. TCPA is a component of the Texas Children’s Hospital network of health care services.

With summer approaching, parents look ahead with eagerness to select summer activities for their children. With so many options available, how do parents decide what will give their children the best summer experience?
Camp Olympia believes in the positive impact a residential camp has on children. After all, summer camp is a key part of a well-rounded education as children learn responsibility and cooperation while gaining independence and self-esteem.
At Camp Olympia, we believe the key to choosing a summer camp is not to focus solely on the fun-factor (which is important) but to dig deeper to learn how staff members are hired and trained, what the camp’s safety record and accreditation standards are, and what experience the camp’s leadership has. It is also highly recommended to tour the camp and/or visit with staff members at a local camp event prior to the summer.
